Cancer Research UK - Gibraltar Branch (“CRUK – Gib”) is, as the name suggests a branch of Cancer Research UK. For those of you who don't know Cancer Research is the UK's leading charity dedicated purely to cancer research. Cancer Research UK supports over 500 research group leaders throughout the UK, through a variety of funding mechanisms including research institutes, clinical centres, programme and project grants. Cancer Research UK is committed to the research funding of both scientists and clinicians and support a number of personal award schemes.
Research is critical in the worldwide battle against cancer. It not only ensures survival rates keep increasing (as they have done over the last decades) but it will also ensures that more humane treatments and cures are found. All this would not be possible without the medical breakthroughs achieved by the dedicated and knowledged scientists and researchers employed by Cancer Research UK and other research organisations in the world. CRUK - Gib fully supports the work done by this organisation and is proud to contribute in whatever way possible to assist in this fight.
CRUK - Gib is fully transparent about where the funds go and what your money is doing to ensure that "Together we will beat cancer”. We are proud to confirm that the total raised to date by Gibraltar has now surpassed the £1 million mark. A certificate commemorating this was presented to the Committee by Professor Peter Johnson - Chief Clinician and Ms Jackie Lacey, Head of Local Engagement & Development, both from Cancer Research UK in February 2009. This certificate was in turn presented to the Minister for Health who accepted it on behalf of the Gibraltar community and will display in St Bernard’s Hospital.
