Relay For Life Gibraltar 2008 21 May 2008
Raise money for Cancer Research – Teams and Cancer Survivors Wanted
A new fund raising event with a difference is being organized by Cancer Research
UK – Gibraltar Branch. To be called the Relay For Life Gibraltar, this will be a 24
hour event, to be held at the Victoria Stadium from Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st
September 2008.
This Relay will consist of members of different teams walking around the running
track over 24 hours. At least one member from each team must be on the track at
any one time over the duration of the Relay.
Teams are encouraged to enter from all sectors of the community; from groups of
friends, families, business or work colleagues, sports associations or any other
groups who may wish to make up a team and take part. Businesses in particular are
encouraged to enter their staff at this event as it can be a good team building
exercise, and at the same time raising funds for a worthy cause.
Teams should be comprised of 8 to 15 members who register for a fee of £10 per
person or £100 per team. This amount will also go towards the total amount raised
by the team. Once registered, teams then go on to undertake their own fund
raising activities by whatever methods they wish up to the date of the Relay.
Relay For Life is by no means a competition, neither at the event itself nor in the
amount of funds raised but it would be welcome for teams to set their own
challenges and raise as much as possible.
Relay For Life will also be a celebration of Cancer Survivorship. Cancer survivors
will also be invited to lead the Relay as guests in the first lap of honour and can
later take part in a Candle of Hope ceremony. Survivors are the living proof of the
progress and success of research and the reason why we should continue to support
Cancer Research UK.
Volunteers will also be required to help out with the event, especially on the day,
so anyone wanting to assist would also be welcome.
Forms to register as a Team Captain or join Relay For Life as a Survivor will be
available at Cosmetic Angels on the 1st Floor ICC, and can be requested
