Where does the money go?
Monies raised through Cancer Research UK help to fund life-saving research. 1 in 3 people develop cancer at some time in their lives. It is the most common cause of death in the UK, responsible for a quarter of all deaths.
Cancer Research UK is the world’s largest independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. It was formed through the merger of two of the country’s oldest and most respected cancer research organisations – the Cancer Research Campaign (CRC) and the Imperial Cancer Research Fun (ICRF) in February 2002. Today it funds over 3,500 scientists doctors and nurses throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and over 1,000 clinical trials. CRUK is almost entirely funded by the public and it would not be possible to continue to make progress against cancer without the generosity and dedication of supporters.
The groundbreaking work delivers medical advances that save thousands of lives and enables whose who develop cancer to live longer. Progress is being made all the time, for example, latest statistics show a 12% fall in the rate of cancer deaths over the last thirty years and it is expected that the next generation will see the most significant advances yet against many cancers.
