Cancer Research Relay

Cancer Research Relay is back in 2011

Raise money for Cancer Research – Teams and Cancer Survivors Wanted

The hugely successful Relay event of 2008 is back again for 2011. Cancer Research Relay will once again be a 24 hour event, to be held at the Victoria Stadium from Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th June 2011 to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The Relay consists of members of different teams walking around the running track over 24 hours. At least one member from each team must be on the track over the duration of the Relay.

Teams are encouraged from all sectors of the community; groups of friends, families, work colleagues, sports associations or any others who may wish to make up a team and take part. Businesses are encouraged to enter this event as it can be a good team building exercise, and at the same time raising funds for a worthy cause.

Teams of 8 to 15 members register for a fee of £100 per team. This amount will also go towards the total amount raised by the team. Once registered, teams then go on to undertake their own fund raising activities as they wish, up to the date of the Relay.

This Relay is not a competition, neither at the event itself nor in the amount of funds raised, but we would welcome teams to set their own challenges and raise as much as possible.

The Relay will also be a celebration of Cancer Survivorship. Cancer survivors will be invited to lead the Relay as guests in the first lap of honour and can later take part in a Candle ceremony. Survivors are the living proof of the progress and success of research and the reason why we should continue to support Cancer Research UK.

Forms to register as a Team or join the Relay as a Survivor will be available at Cosmetic Angels on the 1st Floor ICC, or electronically via email: relay@gibtelecom.net

Volunteers will also be required to help out on the day and in the run up to the event, so anyone wanting to assist is encouraged to contact us.

Further information will be released as the date draws nearer, and can be obtained via email, by contacting Nicky Vinales on Tel. 200 71819, the local Cancer Research UK website: http://www.cancerresearchgib.com/ or via the event’s facebook  group page ‘Cancer Research Relay’  http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=20470310950

together we will beat cancer

At Relay For Life we come together for one day... one night... one reason...

Relay is inspirational

The Cancer Research Relay is much more than just a fundraiser. It allows us to honour Cancer Survivors, remember those whose lives have been lost, educate the community on cancer prevention and early detection and help raise life-saving funds. It brings communities together and focuses on fun for all friends and family members regardless of age or fitness levels.

Why 24 hours?

24 hours is symbolic. We are asking you to give a day out of your life for those who may not have another. There are similarities between the Relay for Life and what a cancer patient goes thought. It may get really hot during the day, and you may feel like giving up, but you keep on walking. It may get windy and cold at night it might even rain. But you carry on – knowing that the sun will come up heralding a new day.
